Motor current depends on mechanical output, voltage, phase, efficiency and power factor. The estimate is useful for early planning; nameplate and code-table current govern final documentation.
Formula
Three phase: I = Pout/(√3 × V × PF × η). Single phase: I = Pout/(V × PF × η).
Worked example
A 7.5 kW, 400 V, three-phase motor at 90% efficiency and 0.85 power factor calculates to about 14.15 A at full output.
How to use the result in a real design
Use the estimate to compare supply options and starting methods, then document the actual motor nameplate, starter, overload range, short-circuit protection and conductor rules in the project.
What the result does not prove
The model excludes starting current, service factor, load profile, voltage unbalance, harmonics, ambient effects and code-specific conductor/protection multipliers.
